Delhi Faces Toxic Air Crisis as Winter Pollution Returns

Updated 1 day ago: The Air Quality Index recorded on November 6 was updated to 389, with specific areas reporting higher levels, and new details about the Graded Response Action Plan and predictions from the Central government's Air Quality Early Warning System were added.

Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded 389 on November 6, categorised as 'very poor', according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Several areas, including IIT Delhi and Rohini, reported AQI levels in the 'severe' category, with readings of 474 and 465, respectively. Municipal authorities have deployed water sprinklers around India Gate as part of the Graded Response Action Plan. The deteriorating air quality is attributed to factors such as stubble burning in neighbouring states and meteorological conditions. The AQI was 369 on November 5, indicating a worsening trend. The Central government's Air Quality Early Warning System predicts that the severe pollution levels may persist for three days.
