Delhi Police Files FIR Against Meta India Over Child Abuse Content
Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Meta India for the presence of child sexual abuse material on its platforms, as confirmed by NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo. This action follows a month after Meta announced AI measures to enhance detection of such content. Between January and June 2026, Meta took action against 5.3 million pieces of child sexual exploitation content in India, with over 98 per cent identified proactively. The company noted that online predators are increasingly using advertisements to disguise illegal content. In response, Meta has expanded its investigations and introduced AI-driven systems to detect and block harmful advertisements. The firm will also report child safety cases directly to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, enhancing its collaboration with law enforcement.
