Karnataka Sees 1.08 Crore Voter Deletions in Electoral Roll Revision
Karnataka's draft electoral rolls, released on August 24, 2026, show a 19.5% decrease, with 1.08 crore names removed, reducing the total from 5.54 crore to 4.46 crore. This deletion rate is significant, particularly in urban areas, where five constituencies reported over 50% removals. The core Bengaluru region experienced the highest deletions, with Gulbarga Dakshin seeing 34%. The Election Commission of India has not provided the electors to population ratio, raising concerns about the accuracy of the rolls. Additionally, Karnataka's Chief Electoral Officer has faced criticism for the lack of transparency regarding deleted voter lists, which are not easily accessible. The CEO stated efforts are underway to improve the website and include old booth numbers.
