Congress Advocates 33% Women Reservation in Lok Sabha Seats
The Congress party is pushing for 33% women’s reservation within the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats. The party aims to delay the proposed delimitation exercise to ensure a fair distribution of seats. A special Parliament session is scheduled from April 16 to 18, which will address women’s reservation separately from the census. Congress leaders emphasize the need to oppose the delimitation bill while supporting amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. The party also seeks to include OBCs in the women’s quota. Implementing the proposed changes will require a constitutional amendment, needing a two-thirds majority in both Houses of Parliament and support from a majority of states.
