Delhi Pilgrimage Scheme Sees Decline in Beneficiaries Since 2019

Delhi's Mukhyamantri Teerth Yatra Yojana has seen a drop in beneficiaries, from 35,759 in 2019–20 to 16,200 in 2023–24. The scheme, launched in 2018, allows senior citizens to undertake free pilgrimages, covering costs for travel. Participation fell to zero in 2020–21 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, before rising slightly in subsequent years. However, the number of beneficiaries has declined in the latest year. A Right to Information response revealed gaps in data, with no figures available for 2024–25 and 2025–26, making it difficult to assess the current performance of the scheme under the present administration. The most visited destinations included Rameswaram and Dwarkadhish, with 27,409 and 26,388 pilgrims, respectively.
