Congress Demands Discussion on West Asian Situation Amid Ongoing Conflict
As the second half of the Budget session begins on March 9, Congress has called for a detailed discussion on the West Asian situation, citing the impact on approximately 10 million Indians working in the region. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted the economic significance, noting that India receives $50-60 billion in remittances annually from West Asia. He criticized the Modi government for its perceived diminished global standing and claimed it is playing 'second fiddle' to the U.S. and Israel. Ramesh pointed to recent military actions, including U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, which have escalated tensions in the region. He argued that a suo motu statement from the government would be insufficient and called for a comprehensive debate to address the ongoing conflict and its implications for India.
