Congress Criticises Modi Government Over Stock Market Decline and FII Outflows

The Congress party has condemned the Modi government for a significant decline in the Indian stock market and ongoing foreign institutional investor (FII) outflows. Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil stated that over ₹4 lakh crore has exited India through FIIs, marking a continuous negative trend for nine months. The Sensex fell 1.52% to close at 72,771.72 on September 28, its lowest in nearly six months, and foreign investors sold ₹10,148 crore on October 1, bringing year-to-date selling to approximately $27.8 billion. Gohil also highlighted increased capital gains taxes affecting middle-class investors, contrasting current rates with those during the previous Congress-led government. He attributed the market's poor performance to government policies, claiming the BJP has negatively impacted the economy.
