Updated 2 days ago: The number of suspected Ebola cases increased from 1,077 to 906, the number of suspected deaths rose from 238 to 223, and new details were added regarding the challenges of insecurity and population displacement, the spread of the outbreak to South Kivu, the tracing of contacts, expanded Ebola screening at airports, plans for additional isolation beds, and information about the Bundibugyo strain's survival rate.

The Democratic Republic of Congo reported 906 suspected Ebola cases and 223 suspected deaths linked to the outbreak. Health Minister Roger Kamba stated that the situation is challenging due to insecurity and population displacement, which hinder contact tracing efforts. The outbreak has spread across 13 health zones in Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu provinces. The World Health Organization noted that only a third of identified contacts have been traced. The US has expanded Ebola screening at airports, including New York's JFK. Congo plans to add 130 isolation beds to treatment centers as part of its containment strategy. The Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, which is currently affecting the region, may have a survival rate of around 70% with early supportive treatment.
