Pinarayi Vijayan and Family Booked in CMRL Payoffs Case

The Kerala Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has filed FIRs against former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter Veena, and son-in-law PA Mohammed Riyas under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The Kerala high court ordered the inquiry on October 9, following a petition by activist-lawyer KM Shajahan. The FIRs stem from findings by the Enforcement Directorate, alleging that Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited made monthly payments of ₹1.72 crore to Veena's firm, Exalogic Solutions, from 2017 to 2019 without any services rendered. The case gained attention after an Income Tax raid in January 2019 revealed potential tax evasion and payments to political leaders. Allegations suggest these payments were bribes to Vijayan for favours in the mining sector. The investigation continues amid political tensions in Kerala.
