Updated 1 day ago: The new version includes the date of the court's directive, specifies the source of the writ petition, updates the amount of alleged fraudulent payments to ₹1.72 crore, identifies the company involved as Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited, mentions the time frame of the payments from 2017 to 2019, notes that the payments were flagged by the Income Tax Interim Settlement Board, adds details about the CPI(M) and BJP's political responses, and states that the UDF government will comply with the court's order.

On October 9, the Kerala High Court directed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau to register an FIR against Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter Veena T, and son-in-law PA Mohammed Riyas. This ruling follows a writ petition by activist-lawyer KM Shajahan, which sought charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act related to monthly payments of ₹1.72 crore made by Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited to Veena's firm, Exalogic Solutions, from 2017 to 2019. The payments were flagged by the Income Tax Interim Settlement Board as lacking legitimate services. The Enforcement Directorate's inquiry revealed alleged fraudulent payments and connections to political figures. The CPI(M) has termed the allegations as political harassment, while the BJP has called for Vijayan's resignation as Leader of Opposition. The UDF government stated it will comply with the court's order.
