Protests Against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar Continue in Delhi

Updated 1 day ago: The topics of the two versions are too different.

A writ petition has been filed in the Madras High Court against the Tamil Nadu government's 'Vettri Payanam' scheme, which offers free bus rides to women and transgender groups. N Kalamani, a private bus operator, claims the scheme violates Article 14 of the Constitution by creating an uneven playing field for private operators. The scheme, launched on October 2, 2026, aims to benefit 84.32 lakh women daily and costs the state ₹6,000 crore annually. Kalamani argues that the lack of fare collection for women on government buses will lead to significant losses for her business, which operates on two routes. The case is set for hearing on October 5, 2026, before Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan.
