CERT-In Warns of AI-Driven Cyberattacks on Financial Institutions
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a warning about ongoing cyberattacks targeting financial institutions, including non-banking lenders and fintech firms. The agency identified a hacking group called 'Crafty Falcon' and four AI tools—ARTEX, PentAGI, Cairn, and CyberStrikeAI—used to automate these attacks. CERT-In reported that the attackers exploit vulnerabilities in systems, often operating during weekends and holidays. Recent incidents include two Mumbai-based lenders losing approximately $2 million through unauthorized transfers on October 8 and 9. The advisory highlights the increasing threat of AI-powered hacking, particularly as financial institutions face challenges in securing their digital payment systems.
