Centre to Propose GST Reforms at October 8 Council Meeting

The Centre will present a five-pronged plan for Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms at the GST Council meeting on October 8. The proposals aim to automate processes, ease compliance for small businesses, and address issues related to input tax credits. Key changes include automatic invoice matching, reduced filing frequency for small taxpayers, and recognition of certain services as exports. Currently, 61% of GST taxpayers receive registration within three working days. The Centre also plans to streamline processes for the remaining taxpayers and ensure refunds are acknowledged within 10 days. If approved, these reforms will be implemented gradually to allow businesses time to adapt.
