India Develops Command-and-Control System for Land Border Security
The Ministry of Home Affairs is creating a technology-driven command-and-control system for India's 15,106.7 km land borders. This initiative aims to enhance monitoring and response capabilities in regions where physical fencing is not feasible, such as the 3,488-km border with China. A pilot project will begin at the Pakistan border. The system will integrate artificial intelligence, sensors, and surveillance tools to provide a unified operational picture for border agencies. Home Minister Amit Shah has outlined a four-pronged border security strategy involving local police, border forces, and technological solutions. States are expected to submit suggestions by December, with a quadrangular security grid to be finalised in the next 1.5 years.
