India Issues Tender for 500 MW Battery Energy Storage Systems
The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has issued a tender for 500 MW/1000–MWh Standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This initiative is part of the government's target to establish 4000 MWh of battery storage capacity to enhance renewable energy integration into the national grid. The tender includes two projects of 500 MWh each, to be installed near the Fatehgarh-III Grid–Substation in Rajasthan. SECI will purchase 60% of the capacity on behalf of power purchasing companies. The successful projects must provide power at least 95% of the time annually and will operate for a term of 12 years. India aims for 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, with significant reliance on solar-BESS technology.
