BJP Rejects Kuki-Zo Demand for Separate Administration in Manipur

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Sharda Devi affirmed the Centre's commitment to Manipur's territorial integrity, rejecting the Kuki-Zo demand for a separate administration. Addressing a party event in Imphal, Devi noted that ongoing ethnic violence has stalled development in the state. The demand for a separate administration was first made by 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs on May 12, 2023, following ethnic clashes that have resulted in over 260 deaths and displaced 60,000 people. The conflict primarily involves the Meitei and Kuki communities, with the state government asserting no buffer zones exist between them. A new government formed in February aims to represent all major communities to promote ethnic balance.
