Supreme Court Questions Election Commission's Decision-Making Process
The Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission of India to clarify whether decisions regarding the special intensive revision of voter rolls were made unilaterally by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The court stated that all decisions must be made unanimously or by majority among the three members of the commission. If unilateral decisions are found, they will be annulled. This follows allegations from a public interest litigation that questioned the validity of recent electoral roll changes. Meanwhile, a group of retired bureaucrats and activists has accused Kumar of misbehaviour and sought his removal, citing six instances of misconduct, including unauthorized changes to Form 6 and undermining the commission's collective functioning.
