21 Dead, 51 Injured in Jammu Bus Accident
A bus accident in Jammu’s Udhampur district resulted in at least 21 fatalities and 51 injuries on Monday. The incident occurred around 10 am when the bus, travelling from Ramnagar to Udhampur, skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in the Khagote area. Preliminary investigations suggest mechanical failure, driver error, and road conditions may have contributed to the crash. An Army convoy was nearby and assisted in the rescue efforts, with injured passengers transported to local hospitals. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for critically injured passengers. J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also announced financial aid for the victims' families. This region has a history of fatal road accidents due to challenging terrain.
