Border Police Chiefs Address Illegal Migration and Security Concerns
At the first-ever conference of police chiefs from 119 border districts, key issues were discussed, including illegal migrants on electoral rolls in Assam and the misuse of the Nepal border by radical elements. The conference, held on July 9, highlighted the use of encrypted applications for arms and narcotics smuggling across the Pakistan border. Assam Police presented a case of a Bangladeshi migrant obtaining forged identity documents to register on the electoral roll. Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the need for timely communication regarding demographic changes driven by illegal migration. The conference included sessions on transborder terrorism, organised crime, and community engagement for border development. States have been asked to submit suggestions by December for a quadrangular security grid aimed at enhancing border security over the next one and a half years.
