Oxfam Report Highlights Rising Inequality and Political Power of Billionaires
Oxfam's annual report reveals that billionaires' collective wealth surged by $2.5 trillion in 2025, nearly matching the total wealth of 4.1 billion people. The report, released during the World Economic Forum in Davos, states that billionaires are 4,000 times more likely to hold political power than average citizens. It also notes that there were 142 significant antigovernment protests across 68 countries last year, often met with violence. Oxfam argues that the influence of the superrich over politics and media has deepened inequality and hindered efforts to address poverty. The report calls for governments to prioritize the needs of the populace regarding healthcare, climate action, and tax fairness.
