Protests Erupt in Delhi Demanding Resignation of Chief Election Commissioner

Members of the National Students' Union of India and other student groups staged protests in central Delhi, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Demonstrators gathered near Connaught Place and Jantar Mantar without police permission, leading to heavy police deployment and detentions. Concurrently, tens of thousands participated in the 'March for Democracy' organised by the INDIA bloc, marching from Mandi House to the Supreme Court. Protesters expressed concerns over large-scale voter deletions, with Congress leaders filing a petition regarding these issues. Despite previous detentions of protesters, many expressed surprise at being allowed to assemble for hours without police intervention during this event.
