Thirteen Dead in Maharashtra from Suspected Spurious Liquor Consumption
At least 13 people have died in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharashtra, after suspected consumption of spurious liquor. Eight deaths occurred in Phugewadi within 24 hours, while five were reported from Pune. Four individuals are in critical condition. Investigators suspect that approximately 215 litres of methanol were mixed into the liquor supplied to these areas. Authorities have detained a bootlegger, Yogesh Wankhede, linked to the distribution network. Police are conducting a multi-agency investigation to determine the exact cause of death and trace the supply chain. Initial reports indicate that some victims had no history of alcohol consumption. The investigation is ongoing, and officials have cautioned against drawing premature conclusions.
