25 Killed in Tamil Nadu Firecracker Factory Explosion

A firecracker factory explosion in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, has resulted in at least 25 fatalities and four serious injuries. The incident occurred at the Vanaja Fireworks Industry on Sunday evening, where around 50 workers were present despite the factory's supposed closure. A second explosion during rescue operations injured 13 additional individuals. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause, with a complaint filed against the factory owner and foreman, who are currently absconding. District officials have identified 22 of the deceased, most of whom are women. The factory's operation on a Sunday has been flagged as a violation, raising concerns about safety standards in the fireworks industry, which has a history of accidents. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin have expressed condolences and called for assistance for the victims' families.
