New Subsea Cables to Boost India's Digital Connectivity by 2029
Andhra Pradesh will soon host new landing stations for subsea cables, enhancing India's internet connectivity. Microsoft and Google are part of projects like the 3,600km India-Southeast Asia (I-2SEA) Submarine Cable System, expected to be operational by Q4 2029. This initiative aims to establish a third digital international subsea gateway in India, connecting to Southeast Asia, Australia, and Europe. Lightstorm CEO Amajit Gupta highlighted the need for new infrastructure to replace aging cables that are 8 to 15 years old. Additionally, a terrestrial corridor will connect major cities, addressing global fiber shortages. Google's facility in Visakhapatnam will focus on AI inference for domestic enterprises, utilising renewable energy and minimising water use.
