Study Reveals AI's Impact on 197 Million Indian Workers
A recent study indicates that nearly 197 million Indian workers are in roles with a high potential for automation, while around 46 million could benefit from AI-enhanced productivity. The analysis estimates that 11.4% of the workforce faces job substitution risks due to AI, while 7.6% may experience productivity gains. Kerala has the highest share of workers in AI-complementary roles at 14.4%, followed by Haryana (11.5%), Maharashtra (11.1%), and Tamil Nadu (10.7%). In contrast, states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have lower exposure to AI-related productivity improvements. The report recommends targeted reskilling and expanding employment opportunities in sectors such as healthcare and education to prepare the workforce for AI's evolving role.
