US-Iran Tensions Disrupt India's Oil Supply via Strait of Hormuz

The US has approved a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, impacting global oil supply. India, the world's third largest oil importer, relies on the Gulf region for over 85% of its crude oil, much of which transits through this strait. The blockade follows Iran's closure of the strait, leading to significant disruptions in India's oil supply chain. While India has historically maintained good relations with Iran, allowing its vessels to pass without fees, the situation complicates its oil imports. India has resumed purchasing Russian oil, but the US waiver for these purchases expired on April 11. The Indian government has assured that there is no shortage of domestic LPG and PNG, despite rising prices in the gray market.
