Maharashtra ATS Arrests Engineering Student for Terrorism-Linked Propaganda
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested Ayan Sheikh, an engineering student from Mumbai, for allegedly sharing propaganda linked to banned terrorist organisations. The arrest follows coordinated search operations in Kurla, Govandi, and Shivaji Nagar, where electronic devices were seized for forensic examination. Sheikh reportedly disseminated extremist content via encrypted messaging platforms and attempted to recruit peers. Investigators found communications with foreign handlers and links to Jaish-e-Mohammed and ISIS. Two other engineering students are under investigation but are not accused of active involvement in terror activities. The ATS is analysing digital evidence to trace operational links and funding channels for extremist activities. Sheikh will be presented in a special court in Mumbai, with further arrests possible as the investigation continues.
