Trial for 9/11 Mastermind Scheduled for June 2028
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind behind the September 11, 2001, attacks, will face trial before a US military tribunal starting June 5, 2028. This decision follows years of legal disputes involving him and three co-defendants held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The trial will commence with jury selection from military service members, followed by opening statements 30 days later. The prosecution will present evidence, after which the defence will have the opportunity to present its case. A US appeals court recently rejected efforts by Mohammed and two co-defendants to enter guilty pleas that would have spared them the death penalty. The September 11 attacks resulted in nearly 3,000 fatalities and are among the deadliest terrorist incidents in US history.
