Over 300 Students and Teachers Abducted in Nigeria School Raid
More than 300 students and teachers were abducted from St Mary's school in Niger state, Nigeria, during a raid on Friday. The Christian Association of Nigeria reported 303 students and 12 teachers were taken, nearly half of the school's total population of 629. This incident follows a separate attack in Kebbi state where 25 girls were kidnapped. In response, Niger state governor Mohammed Umar Bago ordered the closure of all schools in the state, while the national education ministry mandated the shutdown of 47 boarding secondary schools nationwide. President Bola Tinubu cancelled international engagements to address the security crisis. The rise in abductions highlights ongoing violence by armed gangs in Nigeria, which have targeted schools for ransom, raising concerns about safety in the region.
