India Implements Safety Measures for Seafarers in Hormuz Region

The Indian government has announced new safety measures for seafarers in the Strait of Hormuz following the death of a sailor aboard the UAE-flagged MT Al Bahiyah. An operational dashboard will track every Indian seafarer on vessels, and dedicated liaison officers will assist affected families. This decision follows attacks on two oil tankers with 30 Indian crew members, resulting in nine Indian seafarer deaths since February 28. The measures include real-time vessel tracking and coordination with various ministries and Indian missions in the region. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized that the government’s response prioritizes the safety and security of Indian seafarers amid escalating risks in West Asia.
