Two Dead as Turkish Ship Sinks in Black Sea Fire
A fire aboard the Turkish-owned Royad Mammadov in the Black Sea resulted in two fatalities and the rescue of 11 crew members. The incident occurred approximately 30 nautical miles south of Sfantul Gheorghe, Romania. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attributed the fire to Russian drones, although Romanian authorities have not confirmed this claim. The vessel, flagged to Saint Kitts and Nevis, was en route from Ukraine's Izmail to Italy. The Romanian Coast Guard responded to the emergency after being alerted around 11 am local time. The situation in the Black Sea has been tense since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with Romania increasing its military readiness in the region.
