Fifteen Dead in Pune from Suspected Spurious Liquor Consumption
Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad have reported at least 15 deaths linked to suspected spurious liquor consumption. The fatalities occurred in areas including Dapodi, Phugewadi, Hadapsar, and Kalepadal. Eight individuals have been arrested, including the main accused, Colonel Virkha Singh. Investigations indicate that illicit liquor was produced in Hadapsar and distributed across Pune. Authorities suspect that ethanol was illegally sourced from Mumbai and mixed into the liquor. The police are conducting raids and further arrests are anticipated. Some victims had no prior history of alcohol consumption, and investigations are ongoing to determine the precise cause of death. Four additional residents are currently in critical condition. The Maharashtra Chief Minister has called for a thorough investigation to ensure accountability.
