India Ensures Safety of Ships in Strait of Hormuz Amid Firing Incidents

India is coordinating with Iranian authorities for the safety of its vessels in the Strait of Hormuz following recent firing incidents involving two ships, VLCC Samnar Herald and Bulk Carrier Jag Arnav. Both vessels returned to the Persian Gulf unharmed. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that ten Indian ships have safely crossed the strait since early March. The crude oil tanker Desh Garima, carrying 31 Indian seafarers, crossed the strait on April 18 and is expected to reach Mumbai on April 22. The government has emphasized the priority of seafarer safety and unimpeded transit through the strait. Since February 28, approximately 11.3 lakh passengers have traveled from the region to India, with ongoing flight operations from countries with open airspace.
